Anti-virus
How do I make Norton AntiVirus work together with Star Downloader?

Enter the options dialog in Star Downloader and choose the Anti-Virus section.
Now, check the "Virus check after download using:" box and in the "Anti-virus executable" box, specify where the anti-virus program is installed.
There are several executables in the Norton AntiVirus folder, but the one you should use is called: NAVW32.EXE

It could look something like:

C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\NAVW32.EXE

You don't need to specify any parameters if you don't like to. Read more about this in the Norton AntiVirus help file.

Browser Integration
Does Star Downloader integrate with Avant browser?

Yes, it does.
Avant is built on the Internet Explorer "engine" and the integration works in the same way. Just select that you want to integrate with IE in the "Options/Browser Integration" dialog and you also have integration with Avant.

Note: you need Avant v8.0 or later for the integration to work.
How do I get Star Downloader to work with my Mozilla based browser?

Just copy the the file npstar.dll (from the Star Downloader installation folder) to your browsers "plugin" folder. Star Downloader will only intercept clicks on the most common file types.
Why aren't my browser clicks intercepted by Star Downloader when I add file?

The Netscape 6+, Opera and Mozilla integration is different than the others because it just intercept clicks on the most common file types and not all that you might have choosen in the integration settings. Currently the only way you can "intercept" other file types than the default ones is by enabling the "Monitor URLs in clipboard" and copy the link to the clipboard.

Downloads
Can Star Downloader really accelerate downloads with 400%?

Theoretically there is no upper limit to the possible speed except your Internet connection (we have measured acceleration even better than 400% in some cases). The actual speed you will achive, however, is depending on many factors, not least the "speed" of the server you are downloading from. The nice thing about Star Downloader is that it uses the available resources in the best way possible. One of the methods for this is splitting the wanted file in several parts and downloading them at the same time and then combining them again. To get even better results we search for alternative servers to download from and choose the fastest ones. Many more of theories like these are also used to give you the fastest downloads possible.
How can I disable Star Downloader temporarily?

If you're holding down the [ALT] key when clicking a download, Star Downloader will let the browser handle the link. Please note that this only work with Internet Explorer. An additional method for disabling Star Downloader is ritght-clicking the system tray icon and uncheck "Browser Integration".
How can I force Star Downloader to handle a link?

If you hold down the [ALT] and [CTRL] keys when pressing a link Star Downloader will try to download it. Please note that this only works in Internet Explorer. Another way of doing this would be to enable the monitoring of the clipboard in options. Then whenever you copy a link to the clipboard, Star Downloader will try to download it.
How do I drag & drop files into Star Downloader?

You can drag files to the Star Downloader window at any time.
How do I queue downloads?

In the configuration you can set a value for "maximum number of simultaneous downloads". Then just add as many downloads as you like; only the configured number of them will download at the same time, the rest is automatically queued.
How do I resume my downloads?

To resume a paused or interrupted download, just double-click the file or select it and click the resume button.
Why can't I accelerate or resume all downloads?

To be able to accelerate and resume files, the server you're downloading from must support it. This is not always the case and then noted with "Resume: No" in the download window.
Why don't I get anything but "Getting File Info" messages?

Maybe you're behind a firewall and need to configure the proxy settings in the options dialog. If you don't know what to type here, please ask your Internet Service Provider.

General
Can I use Star Downloader with KaZaa and similar?

No, KaZaa doesn't use the HTTP or FTP standard so it's not possible.
Is Star Downloader "spy-ware"?

No, it isn't. Spy-ware means that the software is logging user activities and sending them to some server, most often with the purpose of using the information for custom made advertising. No such thing exists in Star Downloader; we respect your privacy.
Why should I use Star Downloader?

1. Accelerated downloading. By splitting the file to be downloaded into different parts, downloading them separately and then combining them on your computer, the speed of download increases significantly. In the best case, we have received a 400% performance improvement. Further improvement is achieved by downloading from the servers that have historically given the highest download speeds on your computer.

2. Automatic resume. If your download is unexpectedly interrupted for any reason (server error, ISP disconnects you, windows hangs, power cut...), you may always resume downloading from the point were you stopped.

3. Organize your downloads. You may automatically save your files to folders according to the type of file or the date of download. This makes it easy to keep track of your files. Also, if you prefer to download files at certain times of the day, this is possible with the built-in scheduler.

GUI

Install/Uninstall
Do I need to uninstall Star Downloader before updating to a new version?

No. In fact, you shouldn't since this will remove your Star Downloader settings.
How do I configure Star Downloader to work with a proxy?

Go to the proxy/firewall page in the options screen and enter the information needed. If you're uncertain about what to enter here, please contact your ISP.
How do I uninstall Star Downloader?

In the Star Downloader folder under your Windows Start menu there should be a "Uninstall Star Downloader" option that automatically takes care of the uninstallation. Please note that you don't need to uninstall before updating since this will cause some of your settings to be lost.

Some users have reported problems with uninstalling the program, getting the message "Could not open INSTALL.LOG file". This has been found to be simply because they have manually removed that file... The solution is to reinstall Star Downloader and then uninstall it again.
What are the requirements for running Star Downloader?

Star Downloader works on all Windows systems after and including Windows 95. For example: Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP
